SWANSEA, SC — Mr. David Lester Watts, 83, of Swansea, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Born on August 22, 1943, in Gaston, SC, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a cherished friend to many.
A man of incredible work ethic and grit, Mr. Watts dedicated over 45 years of his life to house construction and framing, building structures that stood the test of time. Outside of his career in construction, he harbored a deep passion for the land and farming. He successfully managed a hog farm for many years, and later in life, he transitioned into cattle farming, finding joy and peace in the daily rhythms of agricultural life.
Mr. Watts was preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Mary Jane Watts, as well as his parents and several brothers and sisters.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: his children, Wesley Watts (Candy) and David Jr., both of Leesville, SC, and his daughter, MaryAnn Lee of Swansea, SC. He was a proud "Paw-Paw" to his grandchildren, Courtney (Neil) of West Columbia, Kristin (Patrick) and Carisa (Jordan), both of Leesville, and Caitlin (Casey) of Lexington; and his seven precious great-grandchildren, Nolan, Eleanor, Connor, Benji, Spencer, Isabelle, and Aubrey. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda and Betty; his brothers, Dan and Lavern; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, located at 800 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC.
A graveside service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM at Southland Memorial Gardens.
