Delores Ann Hughes, 79, of Prosperity, entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord at her residence, surrounded by her family. Delores was born and raised in Roderfield, West Virginia. She married at the young age of 15 years old to her love of her life whom would have been married 64 years today on February 24. Delores was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to everyone. She served as a military wife for 20 years, a pastor’s wife for 21 years, and then the rest of her life just being devoted to her family. She was a faithful, devoted Christian that loved the Lord. She was a stay at home mother who raised four children and then took pride in caring for her grandchildren. She served in each church she attended with Sunday school, missions, and anywhere else she was needed. She loved studying the Bible and having discussions about the Bible to learn all she could. She had the sweetest, most giving heart. She included everyone in anything she did. She appreciated everything she had and gave anything she had to anyone that she thought needed it. She loved all of her grandchildren like her own and was so proud of each one of them. She loved growing pretty flowers and spending time sitting on her front porch surrounded by her family talking, laughing, and just being together. Her favorite holiday was Christmas because she loved decorating and hosting family at her home every year. She had so much pride in being able to give to her family during Christmas. In her last few months, she pushed herself to attend family gatherings and special events that her grandchildren were involved in, so that they knew how proud and how much she loved them. She had real joy and pride in teaching her grandchildren early in educational skills and most of all about how to love and put their faith in Jesus.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Reverend Stan Hughes; three sons, Mark Hughes (Mary), Cliff Hughes (Cherry), Josh Hughes (April); eleven grandchildren, Timothy Sapp (Anna), Bethany Praylow (Chris), Brendae Hughes, Samantha Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Travis Grimsley (Mallory), Jessica Grimsley, Clay Hughes (Kaitlyn), Casey Hughes (Eric), Amber Hughes, and Skylar Hughes; sixteen great grandchildren, Canaan, Cullen, Evelynn, Emberly, Malloree, Lyric, Bunny, Mikey, CJ, Chase, Mason, Isabella, Cassie, Stephen, Carson, and Brooklyn; sisters, Ms. Carolyn Regina Bishop, Ms. Linda Bohannon, and Mrs. Gloria Ramos (Jose); brother, Terry Steele.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Joanna Sapp; her mother, Palma Mauldine Bishop and a brother, Larry Bishop.
