Derrel Coker, age 77, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina to Reverend Leona R. Coker and the late Guy B. Coker, Sr. He settled in West Columbia, South Carolina where he became well known and loved in his community.
Derrel was a hard worker and was always willing to give anyone a helping hand. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He worked as a supervisor at Columbia Farms until he was able to enjoy retirement. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was always there for his children no matter the time of day. He attended Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church. He loved the Lord and was always ready to go to church on Sunday mornings. Pastor Gene was very dear to his heart. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother.
Surviving is his wife, Diane Coker; children, Michelle (Gregg) Sease of Chapin, Tammy Miller of Lexington, Stephanie (Bill) Braithwaite of Lexington, Chris (Angela) Stone of West Columbia, and Shannon Jones of West Columbia; grandchildren, Michael Sease, Savannah Floyd, Cody Herron, Lauren Miller, Emily Braithwaite, Leigh Ann Fulmer, Logan Stone, and Jaden York; great grandchildren, Huck Herron, Fran Fulmer, and Adleigh Fulmer; sisters, Sylvia (Jimmy) Dandridge of Hopkins and Barbara (Charles) Hinton of Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Guy B. “GB” Coker, Jr. He had many nieces and nephews that loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, August 20, 2021, at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, 501 Church Street, West Columbia, SC 29172, with Pastor Gene Henderson officiating. A private burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service.
