Our beloved Edith came into this world at her grandmother's home in Guyton, GA. During the depression, her family moved to Cayce, SC. It was there that she met her soul mate and love of her life, Harry W. Shirley. When WWII came not even thousands of miles could stop them from getting married. As soon as he asked her to come, she took a train to San Diego, CA to marry him. Their love would withstand the test of time and last their entire lifetimes.
She dedicated most of her life serving Christ at State Street Baptist Church. While at State Street, she taught kindergarten and spent many decades teaching children Sunday school. She had the privilege of teaching generations, including three generations of her own family. God allowed her to teach 1st and 2nd graders through the age of 99. She always said, "Age is a state of mind."
She was not only a teacher; she also worked for Roberts Electric and retired in 1979. She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Cayce #260.
