Emily Hinkle was a South Carolina woman, born and bred. She was born in Chester, South Carolina on May 10, 1946, the eldest child of William and Louise Stroud. They had another child, Bill Stroud, who grew up to be a South Carolina artist. Emily deeply loved her family. Loyalty and commitment were her most important traits. She was tremendously proud of her brother Bill’s gift of painting.
She graduated from Brookland Cayce High School. Next, she graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina in Psychology. After graduation, she went to work for the State of South Carolina and remained there for her career. It was there she met Clyde Hinkle, whom she married, and was the one true love of her life. Clyde was her rock, her source of all comfort. Their marriage was very happy. But all things change to something new, to something strange. Clyde became ill. The next few years were very hard. Her father, mother, brother, and husband all passed away and she was left with her nephew, Alex Stroud; his three children, Abi Yeary, William Reed Stroud, Sydney Stroud and her sister-in-law, Valerie Stroud. She loved us all. She checked on us, listened to us, and was there when we needed her. She became our One True Thing.
Now you are gone, our dear Emily. We love you. We would have kept you with us to see the new babies when they come. We keep waiting for your phone calls. We want to tell you things but you are gone, and our hearts have a great hole. We cannot fill your place. You are in Heaven and happy, but you will always be in our hearts. You are a woman of great worth.
Emily Hinkle died at home on December 22, 2021 after a short illness.
