

He was born on September 29, 1949 to Shadrach and Eleanor Stone in Florence, South Carolina. He was one of five children. He had two brothers and two sisters, and grew up surrounded by family, enjoying the wonders of the outdoors and falling in love with fishing from an early age.
After graduating from Olympia High School in 1968, where he ran track, he enlisted in the United States Army and began a 24-year military career.
While being stationed in Korea, Ernest met Chung, the love of his life. Their life together was a journey taking them through Georgia, Germany and South Carolina where they eventually settled and raised their two sons, John and Alex.
In addition to fishing, Ernest’s great passions in life included watching his beloved Gamecocks and his growing family.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 41 years, Chung, of Gilbert, SC; two sons, John (Elizabeth) of Roswell, GA and Alex (Jessica) of Gilbert, SC; grandchildren, Bradyn, Kelsie, Everett, Abby, Sam; sister, Delorese Haselden of Coward, SC; brother, Danny of Murphy, NC; sister, Frances Mayer of Gaston, SC; brother, Allen of Orangeburg, SC; seven nieces; three nephews; six great nephews and four great nieces.
He is preceded in death by both parents, his aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Southland Memorial Gardens, Chapel of Hope with interment to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
