“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:25-30.
Helen Ann Hudson passed away on February 10, 2025, at 85 years old - now healed and whole with her Savior in heaven. Born on December 12, 1939, in Turkey, NC, daughter to the late Thurman West and Macey McGee West.
Ann met her sweetheart John Troy in elementary school. It was true love from the start. The two got married on September 25, 1959, and spent 65 wonderful years together, building a beautiful life in Columbia, SC, where they re-located in 1963. The simple joys in life mattered most to her - every moment hand in hand with John, being surrounded by a house or yard full of grandchildren and great grands, tending to flowers in her garden, or watching for the hummingbirds on the porch, with a glass of sweet tea.
Ann's faith in the Lord was the unwavering and evident foundation of who she was. She was known for her servant's heart; constantly pouring out the love and grace she had been given to others, especially her family. Ann was a devoted member of Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she and John enjoyed worshipping and serving together.
Ann, or "Nanny", as she was affectionately known, considered her most important life accomplishments to be her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of strong faith, the treasure of family, and a gentle-loving kindness that forever changed each life she touched.
Ann is predeceased by her parents; Thurman and Macey West, sisters; Faye Fortier and Gladys Brock; and grandson; Dustin Whaley. Ann is survived by her loving husband; John Hudson, sister; Sarah White, children; Angie Boatwright (Jeff), Troy Hudson (Tonia), Tammy Hudson, grandchildren; Derrick Boatwright (Dori), Kevin Boatwright (Halley), Stephanie Burket (Michael), Hannah Mann (David), Kaylee Shealy (Dustin), Kennedy Miller (Drew), great grandchildren; Kynleigh Boatwright, Kade Boatwright, Isaiah Boatwright, Elsirae Boatwright, Uriah Boatwright, Aribella Boatwright, Eloise Burket, Raleigh Burket, Ada Mann, Kellan Mann, Stella Shealy, Bowen Miller, and Taygan Whaley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, 501 Church Street, West Columbia, SC 29172. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 2:00pm prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
