A memorial service celebrating the life of Korean and Vietnam veteran SFC Howard N. “Bud” Culver, U.S. Army (retired) of West Columbia will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025. Bud departed this Earthly life on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He was born on May 16, 1933 to the late George and Donnabelle Woods Culver in Rochester, IN.
He is survived by his sister, Norma Diedrich; children, Tim Mahaffey (Amy) and Karen Jones; grandsons, Tyler Mahaffey (Kristie) and Chris Moore; and two great granddaughters, Lucy and Lola Mahaffey.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Culver and grandson, Justin Mahaffey.
Bud was blessed by being a part of the Jake Smith Family of Batesburg-Leesville area. He retired from Eaton Corporation, Kalamazoo, MI after his retirement from the U.S. Army. He saw service in Korea, Germany, Italy, England, and Vietnam. He was a Past Master of the Cayce Masonic Lodge #384 A.F.M., also a member of the Scottish Rite, Shrine Club, National Sojourners, and American Legion Post 130 Cayce.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America or Vietnam veteran charities.
