Jackie E. Chavis

LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Jackie E. Chavis, 74, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 140 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 210, Columbia, SC 29210. Mr. Chavis was born August 28, 1941 in Columbia, SC and passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016. He was a son of the late Ralph Chavis and Mary Williams Chavis.

Mr. Chavis was a home builder who enjoyed teaching the craft of installing hardwood floors and was a proud member of the Home Builders Association for many years. Jackie enjoyed fishing, hunting, shelling pecans and traveling with friends; but, most of all, he was a loving husband, father and Papa who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Chavis is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Spires Chavis; children, Lisa Chavis Anderson (Jon), Tammy Michelle Chavis, Angela Chavis Thomas (Chris), Melissa Chavis Sprosty (Phil); grandchildren, Shanna Wolfe (Ray), Mike Wolfe (Chelsea), Savannah Anderson, Todd Chavis (Katie), Chelsea Chavis (Jeremy), Nick Chavis (Shay), Matthew Thomas, Joseph Thomas, Logan Chavis-Belk, Ethan Chavis-Belk, Gavin Chavis-Belk, Darby Morgan, Erin Clancey; great-grandchildren, Ava, Madison, Connor, Carter, Garnet, Olivia, Jack, Emerson, Everett, Serena; brothers, Junior Chavis, Tommy Chavis (Louise), Bruce Chavis, Richard Chavis, Eddie Chavis (Debra); sisters, Mary Ellen Huggins, Jackie Hoover (Jeff), and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, L. T. Chavis, Billy Chavis, Larry Chavis and sister, Betty Sue Quarles.
