Preacher James Billy Loving, 85, passed away on August 23, 2026. Born on December 23, 1940, Preacher Loving was the son of Ruby Ladd and Woodrow W. Loving. He will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude by all who knew him, and most especially by those who shared in his life and love through the years as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful pastor.
He began his life of ministry at Star Gospel Mission in Charleston, South Carolina. Later he pastored at Wando Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wando, South Carolina. For 50 years, Preacher Loving faithfully served as a church pastor at Springfield Pentecostal Holiness Church in Laurinburg, North Carolina, dedicating his life to serving God, his congregation, and the community. His faith, compassion, leadership, and love for others touched countless lives and will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Loving of West Columbia, South Carolina; his son, Allen Loving (Cathy) of Laurens, South Carolina; his son, Daniel Loving (Leslie) of Bonaire, Georgia; and his daughter, Melissa Ellis (Mitch) of Perry, Georgia.
He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Samuel Loving and wife Amelia, Noah Loving, Phillip Loving, Brianna Manuel, David Bates, and Gabriel Ellis; and one great-granddaughter, Tallulah Loving.
Preacher Loving leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion that will continue through his family and the many lives he touched throughout his 60 years of ministry.
Visitation will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, on August 27, 2026, at 11:00 am.
A Funeral Service will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, on August 27, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
Burial will follow the service at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, on August 27, 2026.
