Jeanette V. Severe

Jeanette V. Severe, 82, passed away on April 18, 2026. Born on January 17, 1944, in Vicksburg, MS, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Miriam Priscilla Love Varnell. She remained a resident of Vicksburg until 1972, when she made her home in the Columbia, South Carolina area.

Jeanette graduated from H.V. Cooper High School. In the years that followed, she devoted herself to her family as a stay-at-home mother, giving her time and steady care to the home she built and the people she loved.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Kent Severe of Columbia, SC and her brother, Samuel Edward Varnell of Vicksburg, MS. She is survived by a brother, David Varnell of Saluda, SC, a sister-in-law, Lynne Matheny of Hanahan, SC, three sons, George K. (Amy Arel) Severe of Prosper, TX, Ralph J. (My) Severe of Carrolton, TX, and Randall K. (Jennifer) Severe of Pelion, SC; two daughters, Kristin S. (Tim) Benefield of Lexington, SC, and Ashley Severe Berryhill of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren Aaron (Hailey) Ward of Gaston, SC, Courtney (Shawn Cooper) Ward of Lexington, SC, Kyle (Kristin) Benefield of Spartanburg, SC, Rachel Benefield of Nashville, TN, Nolan (Hannah) Benefield of Columbia, SC, Leah (Trey) Fox of Blackwell, OK, and Kami Severe of Carrolton, TX; and great-grandchildren Jaxon Ward of Gaston, SC, Eva Rae, Decker, Ace and Elery Benefield of Spartanburg, SC, and Liberty, Levi, and Alex Fox of Blackwell, OK; two nieces, Melissa (David) Branham of Saluda, SC, and Sheila (Tony) Gaskin of Brandon, MS; one nephew, Jonathan (Melissa) Varnell of West Ashley, SC; two great-nieces, Ella Varnell of Hanahan, SC and Lilly Ross of Oxford, MS; and two great-nephews, Austin Peel of Dallas GA and Mason Ross of Starkville, MS.

Visitation will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Rd, W. Columbia, South Carolina 29170, on April 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

A graveside service will be held at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, South Carolina 29170, on April 24, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
