John David Johnson was a soldier in the United States Army in his early years. He served seven years in the time of the Vietnam War. For over 20 years he provided for his family as a truck driver. In his later years, before retirement, he was an avid landscaper with his own business. John Johnson was known as the man who could fix anything. John was a highly proficient marksman and enjoyed teaching his family many skills including car mechanics, home repair and fishing. John was a long term member of Friendship Original Free Will Baptist Church in Emit, NC. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed playing cards as often as possible.
John Johnson is survived by his daughters, Vanessa Pruett and Jessica Evans; sons-in-law, Ricky Evans and Jeremy Pruett; the mother of his children, Debra Moore; grandchildren, Rebecca Clark, Bella Key and Christoher Key; Angus Moore who was like a son; his beloved companion, Kandie Norred; brother, Johnnie Dale; cousins, Mark and Barbara Eliott, Melvin Capps, Dwight Capps, Jessica Eliott, Jeremy and Brooke Eliott, and many more from the Capps family.
He was predeceased by his mother, Grace Capps; father, Bennie Johnson; uncle and aunt, Noah and Clentis Capps; aunt, Joann Townsend; cousin, Justin Eliott (Bubba); and many other Capps family members.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229.
A Memorial of life will be held at 6:00pm on July 19th, 2025 at Friendship Original Free Will Baptist Church, 744 Friendship Church Road, Middlesex, NC 27557.
