John learned hard work early on, plowing with a mule-team on the family farm. He went on to take many classes to better himself and create a rewarding career in the electrical and nuclear industry. He retired from Westinghouse Electric Nuclear Fuel Division after becoming an Instrument Technician, a manager, and eventually an Engineer. He was credited with at least five patents and earned several awards.
John enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful pieces of furniture. He was a faithful, longtime church member and served as a deacon. He was a dedicated family man and considered his family’s needs before his own. His family will remember John’s enjoyment of cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway in his Buick, visiting antique tractor shows, working on his El Camino, growing an enormous vegetable garden, smoking sausage, catching fish for a fry, fixing whatever was broken (or improving it if it wasn’t) and relaxing to the sounds of Lawrence Welk or the Three Tenors.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Irene Croft Rosier; daughter Harriette Newell (Mark); son, Steve Rosier (Angie); grandchildren, Jonathan (Melissa) and David (Bonnie) Newell; and great-grandchildren Benjamin, Silas, Hollis, and Jonas.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, James David, Eva Eunice, Bernice Mae Padgett, Florence Oleane Haley, Robert Lenwood, Rosalie Moore, Dorothy Duncan Carlson, and Doris Brumbalow, and his granddaughter-in-law, Lydia Ruth Gallion Newell.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Grace Baptist Church, 416 Denham Ave, West Columbia, SC 29169, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place after the service at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
The family wishes to thank the many wonderful caregivers from Griswold Home Care that were so gracious to them and became so much like family, as well as the many kind folks from Grace Baptist Church who visited over the years of his disability, the neighbors who helped in so many situations and the folks from the South Congaree Fire Department and Lexington County EMS who responded so often.
