LEXINGTON - Funeral services for Johnnie Trout, Sr., 95, of Lexington will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday March, 29, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with internment in Southland Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to the Lexington VFW or American Legion. Mr. Trout passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018. He was born in Forest City, NC on October 19, 1922 to the late James Trout and Emma Pow Trout Edison. He was a World War II Army Veteran. The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class, Johnnie T. Trout (Asn: 34645927), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 35th Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Germany, on the 9th, of April 1945. After holding his position when others sought safety during an artillery barrage followed by the infantry attack, Private Trout, a rifleman, inflicted casualties on the enemy by his counter fire, and then exposed himself to heavy enemy fire to seek assistance. Upon his return, the enemy had occupied adjacent buildings and had pinned down his platoon. Again discarding personal safety, he moved forward and silenced the enemy fireman with grenades, enabling his platoon to resume the fight and halt the enemy attack. Private Trout’s gallantry in action reflects credit upon is character as a soldier. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion 07 and was a Lead Burner. He was proud of his southern family and roots. Mr. Trout is survived by his son, Johnnie Trout, Jr. of Globe, AZ; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Garvy, John E. Sharpe, Carl E. Sharpe, John A Taylor, Michelle and Missy Taylor; 14 greatgrandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Worthy of Leesville. He was preceded in death by his 3 wives; his daughters, Cathy Bryant, Sandra Dugan and brother, James Eugene Trout.
