Kathy Berry Hawks

LEXINGTON – Services for Kathy Dianne Berry Hawks will held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Drive in West Columbia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Drs. Michael and Fran Bragan with graveside services and burial in Rosemont Cemetery, Clinton, SC at 4:30. Mrs. Hawks was born March 10, 1953 in Clinton, SC, the daughter of the late James and Margaret Marshall Berry. She grew up in Clinton and was a graduate of Clinton High School and Appalachian State University, with graduate work done at the University of South Carolina. She was an educator in South Carolina’s public schools and after taking time off to raise her children, taught preschool at Lexington Kindergarten for 18 years. She was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church where she was active in many areas of church life and was awarded the Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership. She was involved with South Carolina 4-H; first as a member, then as a volunteer, since 1962. She also enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity. A simple person, Mrs. Hawks was happiest when spending time with her family. She was married to Timothy Tyler Hawks since 1979, and together they raised three children. She nurtured her children in the Christian faith and imparted to them a love for their country. She was very proud of them. She enjoyed history and traveling and as often as she could, took trips with her family to explore this great country in which they were privileged to live, visiting all 48 continental states. She was always proud to be able to say that she was the daughter of a veteran (Korea), the wife of a veteran (Vietnam) and the mother of a US soldier (Afghanistan. In her spare time, Mrs. Hawks enjoyed scraping, cooking, playing the piano, gardening and attending classes at the Shepherds Center in Lexington. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandbaby. Little Doodlebug was the light of her life. Survivors include her husband, Timothy Tyler Hawks; two sons, Robert Alan Hawks and wife Lynn of Columbia, Timothy Marshall Hawks, (wife Crystal, deceased) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Caralytta Diane Hawks of Columbia; two granddaughters, Aryanna Aleshire Hawks and Marie Alexis “Doodlebug” Hawks; her step-mother, Daneen Sherman of Blythwood; step-brothers, and step-sisters, James “Chip” Phillips and Doug Phillips of Columbia, James Berry, Jr., Rhonda Sue Berry and Monica Berry Rufer all of San Antonio, Texas. Memorials may be made to the South Carolina Scleroderma Foundation or Providence Presbyterian Church. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.net
