WEST COLUMBIA – It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth Raymond Kerbs announces his passing, after a battle with colon cancer, on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the age of 91. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Mary Etta (Rushton) Kerbs and his two sons, Kenneth Kerbs (Cynthia) and Joseph Kerbs (Joanna). Ken will also be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren, Shauna Gallegos (Gil), Jessica Metts (Shandon), Jordin Clamp (Eric), Joseph Kerbs (Ciara), Tyler Kerbs (Macie); ten great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Kerbs and sister-in-law, Marge Kerbs.
Ken was born July 31, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, to Walter and Louise Kerbs. He served in the US Navy, then joined the US Army in 1945 and retired as Staff Sergeant in 1967. He then worked for the City of Columbia Police Department from 1967-1982 and, finally, retired from the University of South Carolina Police Department in March 1988.
He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Louise Kerbs and siblings, Raymond Kerbs, Donald Kerbs, Marlene Kerbs Strange, Robert Kerbs and Diane Kerbs Lockhart.
Services with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 am at Southland Memorial Gardens Chapel of Hope on Monday, October 15, 2018. Pallbearers are Joseph Kerbs, Tyler Kerbs, Gil Gallegos, Shandon Metts, Eric Clamp and Jeff Snelgrove. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 78123.
