Leonard lived a life well driven. For more than 50 years, he sat behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler, traveling millions of miles and delivering hundreds of thousands of loads across America. The road was more than a career for Leonard - it was a way of life and a reflection of the hardworking, dependable man he was.
When he was not on the road, he loved spending time with his family, spoiling his grandkids, fishing, cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks, and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys.
To many, he was Dad. To some, he was Uncle Dimples. To those who knew him best, he was one of the most genuine, forgiving, and giving people you could ever meet. He was the kind of man who would give you his last dollar or the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. He loved his family deeply, and his grandbabies were truly his world.
Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Leonard Keith Bairefoot Jr.; his parents, Helen and Clarence Bairefoot; his brothers, Bill Bairefoot, Leroy Bairefoot, and Russell Bairefoot; and his wife, Gail Rexrode Bairefoot.
He is survived by his daughter, Liz McIntire of West Columbia; his son, Lance Bairefoot of Pelion; his granddaughter, Serenity McIntire; his grandson, Aubri McIntire; countless nieces and nephews; and many others he loved and considered sons, daughters, and family.
Leonard's life was defined by generosity, forgiveness, hard work, and an enormous love for the people around him. He leaves behind a family who will miss his heart, his humor, his presence, and the way he made people feel cared for.
Visitation will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will follow the service at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
