Her numerous nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart and were thought of often.
God was so good in aptly providing the perfect mother, teacher and friend. Leading dad to choose her to be his wife was the best thing he ever did for his family. She held down the fort during many years of service as a military wife and mother of five, substituting during the school years and as a seamstress professionally, making those band uniforms that the school could not afford and designing prom dresses.
Known for her unwavering dedication and compassion, she touched the lives of everyone she encountered. As a cherished friend and confidante, she left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
You knew the moment you met her that you were loved. Her eyes would hug you the moment you walked in the door. Her smile welcomed you and lifted your heart instantly erasing any time that may have passed since your last visit.
Her ability to ferret out the truth was uncanny (and didn’t necessarily involve a switch of one’s own choosing). Her lessons of love, resilience and generosity were instilled in her children at an early age, and she continued to teach us about those gifts until her very last breath.
As a moral compass, she taught us to respect and love other human beings. Ever the expert nurturer, she did not discriminate when it came to the animals and raised many whether having fallen from a tree and raised in a housecoat pocket or orphaned from a litter of pups. She provided healing across all His creatures.
Her adventurous side taught us to stay curious and that we were capable of so much more than we could imagine. In her eyes, we could not disappoint no matter how many opportunities each of us may (or may not) have provided. As an accomplished seamstress, her eye for detail translated into her sewing for which we are most grateful. Her quick wit and amazing memory provided some of the most unexpected pearls of wisdom and often irreverent humor just when one needed them.
She embraced technology with her iPad which allowed her to keep current with family and friends on social media. Her pastimes were sewing, crocheting, cooking, crime shows and several of us proudly display at least one of her framed complex puzzles in our homes.
She was and will remain a strong and amazing woman. Mom was a beloved wife and mother. She will be sorely missed and always in our hearts; she will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love and kindness she shared by those whose lives she touched.
The family is thankful to so many friends and grandchildren who loved and cared for her. There really are too many to name them all but to Teresa Ricard Haltiwanger, Stephanie Newcomb, Dr. Misty Bost, Addie Maynor and her mom Jackie we are forever grateful.
Services for Peggy’s homegoing will be conducted by her son Chaplain Bob Paige and Pastor Brian Fields on Saturday, April 12, 2025, beginning with visitation at 3:00 p.m. and the funeral service promptly at 4:00 p.m. at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Southland Memorial Gardens, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, South Carolina.
