Margo went to St. Patrick’s Catholic School and graduated from Bishop England High School in 1960 in Charleston, SC. She also graduated from Oconaday Business College in Charleston, SC. In 1967, Margo married James E. Carter in Charleston, SC and they were married for 59 years.
Margo was a 1st degree Black Belt and instructor in martial arts. She was the past DAV Unit Commander of her DAV Aux Unit in Columbia, SC. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Columbia, SC and a past Eucharist Minister. She was also known as the “Lady” for Lady and the Cop.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Brenda Collins Fowler of Buchanan, VA and Donna Carter Chapman of Ravenel, SC; brothers-in-law, Mike Collins of Hardy, VA, Frank Collins of Vinton, VA, and Robert Earl Carter of Belchertown, MA.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Laurey Elizabeth Carter; baby boy, James, Jr.; and brothers-in-law Richard Carter of Charleston, SC, David Carter of Columbia, SC, and Michel Carter of Summerville, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1529 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
