

Mark Patrick Kennedy, 71, passed away on December 17, 2025, in West Columbia, South Carolina. Born on July 19, 1954 in Lincoln, Nebraska and recently resided in Charlotte, NC. Mark lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and community. He worked in Sales with Masland Carpet in SC and NC and later worked in Commercial Sales with Lowe’s Home Improvement. He retired in 2023.
Mark began his academic and athletic journey at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona where he played college football. He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. His time at both institutions reflected his dedication to personal growth and perseverance.
Throughout his life, Mark remained deeply committed to the Catholic Church. His faith was a guiding force that shaped his values and actions. Whether attending services or living out the principles of compassion and service in daily life, Mark’s spiritual foundation was ever-present.
Mark shared a loving marriage with deep devotion to Elaine Boyd Kennedy. Together they built a home filled with warmth and support. He was a devoted father to Zack Kennedy and Zane Kennedy (Kristy), taking great pride in coaching them through many of their sports endeavors. His role as a father extended beyond guidance, he was their biggest supporter and best friend.
He has three grandsons—Kohen, Luca, and Brody Kennedy. Mark also maintained close bonds with his siblings: Mike Kennedy (Helen), Michelle Brady (Pat), and Mindy Brennan (Neil). He held dear the memories of those who preceded him in death: his parents, Donald George Kennedy and Vera Smith Kennedy; sisters Teresa Kennedy Cigrik (Bulent), Melissa Kennedy; In-laws, McRoss Hudson Boyd, Jr. and Agnes S. Boyd, Maxie Boyd & Frankie Boyd.
Mark had a passion for hands-on projects and discovery. He found fulfillment in renovating homes—a hobby that combined creativity with craftsmanship—and enjoyed metal detecting as a way to explore the world around him. These interests reflected his curious spirit and love for meaningful work.
Family gatherings were enriched by the presence of many nieces and nephews who admired Mark’s warmth and generosity. His legacy is one of steadfast love, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to those he held dear.

A Visitation will be held December 28, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Rd, W. Columbia, SC, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. A burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W Dunbar Rd W, West Columbia, SC 29170. Livestream will be on the Caughman Harman Facebook page starting at 3:00 PM.
