

WEST COLUMBIA - Nellie Poole went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 18, 2015. She was predeceased by her loving husband, William “Bill” Poole.
She is survived by her adored family. Son, William Martin Poole, beloved wife, Gayle, of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Pastor Greg Poole, wife, Lisa; great-granddaughters, Julia and Anna of Kauai, Hawaii; grandson, Geoff Poole and wife, Tracey of Charlotte, NC and numerous other family members.
Nellie was born in Atlanta, GA June 13, 1922. She was the daughter of Richard C. Shaw and Annie Elizabeth Clark Shaw. The family later moved to Woodruff, SC. After graduating from Woodruff High School, Nellie met and married the love of her life, William “Bill” Poole. They were blessed with their beloved son, William Martin Poole. They were the proud members of the “Greatest Generation”, worked hard and lived through the depression and World War II. Bill served in the war and was a POW in Germany. To further his education the family moved to Columbia, SC. Later Nellie and Bill opened the Beacon Hill Restaurant with the blessing of Doctor Bob Durham and Dr. Will Lou Gray.
Nellie Poole was a member of Airport Baptist Church. Her devout faith in God and her strong will to live and never ceasing determination is what carried Nellie through life. Needless to say, Nellie left a lasting impression on all those who were blessed with the opportunity to know and love her. Prayer and faith provided her with strength throughout her 93 years of life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
A Celebration of Life Service for Nellie Shaw Poole, widow of William “Bill” Poole will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Wednesday, December 23, 2015, conducted by the Rev. Ed Lynch, Rev. Greg Poole and Derryl Bryant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170 , 803-755-3527 with burial in Southland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family gives thanks to Dr. Allan Wenner of Twelve Mile Creek and Emanuel Adult Care Staff and nurses for their care of Nellie over the years. Her caregivers, June Emmanuel, the Beacon Hill family and the special caring friends that cared and shared in many ways.
