Penny Louise Gantt

WEST COLUMBIA – Beginning in 2008, Penny waged a fierce and hard-fought battle with breast cancer. That battle ended on Wednesday, November 5th when she went home to be with her Heavenly Father. She will be celebrating her much-anticipated 40th birthday in Heaven on April 4th, 2015. Funeral Services are set for Friday, November 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. All during her many treatments and various procedures, she continued her work as a Property Manager with Allegiance Realty. Her mantra with her physicians was "keep pumping water, I can keep treading." Her positive outlook and tremendous strength inspired all those exposed to her both personally and professionally. She is survived by her loving mother, Kathryn Gantt; her brother, L. Beaury Gantt both of Gaston, SC, and her father, Beaury E. Gantt of Florence, SC. She is also survived by aunts Betty Jo Winn (John) of West Columbia, Kay Freeman of Chappells, along with her uncles Andy Freeman (Judy) of St. Matthews, Richard Freeman of Lexington, and Archie T. Gantt (Barbara) of Simpsonville. She was also blessed with cousins with whom she has close relationships. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Louise Freeman of Cayce; her paternal grandparents, Archie and Agnes Gantt; aunts, Harriet (Buddy) Jeffers and Iian (Lloyd) Nelson, of Lugoff, SC, and her uncle, James Freeman of Chappells, SC. Penny will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. We look forward to that day when we will see her again. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.net

Mama Gantt & Beaury - If love could have saved anyone Penny would definitely be here with us forever. You were her concern throughout her illness, never herself. In six short years she became one of my dearest friends, almost sister-like and I am forever changed. Her fight and decision to really get out and live even when she felt poorly served as an inspiration for all of her friends. She was beautiful, independent, candid and always FUN! Penny will live on in each of us forever. You are on my mind in my prayers and I am here for you. Hugs.

My heart is heavy with grief and sorrow with the loss of Penny -- for her mother, brother and family. Every time I saw her, she greeted me with a smile and always asked how I was doing -- even when I know she was sick and feeling bad. She focused her sights on this battle, but she did not let it stop her. She is a true hero and the real face of the fight for a cure, not just treatment, of this deadly disease that has taken far too many women before their time. I know that God welcomed this Angel with open and loving arms. She can rest in peace with Mammy and Jana. Penny, you will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved you.
