Richard Lee, 74, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on October 8, 2026. Born on June 25, 1952, in Columbia, he grew up in Dentsville, South Carolina, and carried those roots with him throughout his life.
Richard was the owner of Richard's Automotive, a place that reflected the steady work ethic and determined spirit that guided him in all he did. He met challenges with resilience and courage, and those who knew him recognized a man who could be both unwavering and warm; wise in his ways, loyal to his people, and, at times, famously stubborn and hard headed, especially when he believed something was worth standing for. Even so, Richard’s kindness and generosity were never in short supply, and his humor had a way of easing a hard day and bringing people together.
Above all else, Richard was a loving father and grandfather, and his family was what he loved most. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Lee; his daughters, Angela Broxton (BJ) and Ashley Lee (Brooks Robinson); and his grandchildren, Courtney Brown (Blake), Ashton Buckner (Anthony), Richard Broxton, Breanna Kreider (Adley), and Carson Lown. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Taygan, Asher, Delilah, Sawyer, Emmett, Emelia, and Willow; and by his sisters, Jeanette Birchmore and Edna Ford.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Carlisle Lee, and his mother, Nettie Jewel Lee; two sisters and four brothers; and great grandchildren, Jackson and Hampton Whaley; his precious four legged baby, Shilo.
A lifelong drag racer and devoted car enthusiast, Richard’s adventurous spirit was most at home where engines roared and craftsmanship mattered. He built many motorcycles, and he took deep pride in doing things the right way; by hand, with patience, and with grit. Among his many passions and milestones, he was the ninth person inducted into Sonny's 200 mph club, an honor that spoke to both his boldness and his skill.
The family extends sincere gratitude to Agape Hospice of Lexington, and to his special group of friends, for their care, support, and presence during this time.
Richard will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was steadfast in love, generous in spirit, and enduringly true to himself.
