Sara Helen Brooks

WEST COLUMBIA – Sara Mary Helen Bailey Rabon Brooks, 78, of West Columbia, died Monday, October 3, 2016 in Lexington Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Walker of Red Bank Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born April 30, 1938 in Latta, SC, the daughter of the late Bill Bailey and Monnie Sue Hood, and foster parents, Fulton and Mary L. Rabon. She was currently retired after working many years for Lexington Sportswear, Monroe Calculator Company, Shakespeare Monofilament Division, Bracebridge Construction Company and Palmetto Self Storage.

She is survived by her daughters, Sara Ann Brooks of West Columbia and Carla Sue Brooks of Lexington; her son, James Kenneth (Kim) Brooks of Lexington; her daughter-in-law, Paulette Brooks Sheppard of Sandy Run; her granddaughter, Sara Lei Brooks Hulon of Gaston; her great-granddaughters, Jordan McKenzie Hulon of Gaston and Jayla Ann Brooks of Lexington; her great-grandsons, Bryan “Bo” Keith Hulon, II of Gaston and Jayden Connor Brooks of Lexington.

She is predeceased by her husband, Carl Kenneth Brooks; a son, Carl Nathaniel “Bo” Brooks; and brothers, James F. Bailey, Junior Bailey and Stewart Bailey.

The family asks that memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association, 6437 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC 29209 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
