Stokely was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina on September 12, 1943 to Mildred Driggers and Stokely Cox. He graduated from Bennettsville High School class of 1961. He work as a disc jockey at Radio Station WBSC in Bennettsville, SC. In 1964 he moved to West Columbia, SC where he joined the SC National Guard. He attended Officer Candidate School graduating in 1970 and attaining rank of 1st Lieutenant serving until 1976. Stokely was a manufacturing carpet representative until 1999 at which time he formed his own company designing custom carpet for resort areas which he dearly loved because of the travel. He was the former Mayor of Town of South Congaree where his heart remains.
He was an avid Gamecock Club member for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sylvia Wright Cox; sisters, Linda Kirkland, Judy Marlowe, and Sharon Kelly and numerous much loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Cox, George (Pete) Cox, Wayne Cox, and Timmy Cox; sisters, Doris Nash and Betty Turner.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, 501 Church Street, West Columbia, SC 29172. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.
