

CHAPIN – Thelma Templeton Steverson-Latham, 80, of Chapin, SC, formerly of Cayce/West Columbia and Blackville, SC, passed from this life on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with interment in Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her nephews. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. Latham was born in Denmark, SC on August 25, 1931 to the late G. P. (Dick) Templeton and the late Fannie Gardner Templeton Smith.
Mrs. Latham was an active dedicated member of Congaree Baptist Church and a former member of Dixiana Baptist Church where she served in many capacities to honor and glorify her Lord. Mrs. Latham was the owner/operator of Thelma’s Beauty Shop for many years until its closing. Mrs. Latham was then employed by Eastman Kodak until her retirement.
Mrs. Latham is survived by her husband, Michael D. Latham of Chapin, SC and her children, Wade H. (Linda) Steverson, Escondito, CA, Sherill S. (Carl) Wessinger, Chapin, SC, Alton L. (Sandra) Steverson, Lexington, SC and step-daughter, Linda (Jim) White of West Columbia, SC.
Nana is also survived by her eight grandchildren, E. Lee (Susan) Wessinger of Chapin, SC, Sherri W. (Joshua) Thompson of Chapin, SC, Wade H. Steverson II of San Diego, CA, Courtney S. (Joey) Luna de Lafuente of Escondito, CA, Mathew R. Steverson of San Diego, CA, Timothy (Melissa) Kimsey of Lexington, SC, Andrea K. (Jason) Shumpert of Lexington, SC, Tammi J. Steverson of Lexington, SC and Christopher Johnson of FL; six step grandchildren, Mandy White, David White, Ricky White, Mikey White, Jamie White and Daniel White. Mrs. Latham always had a special love for all babies, especially her ten great-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Latham leaves five siblings, Joe M. (Betty) Templeton of Blackville, SC, F. Truett (Chloe) Templeton of West Columbia, SC, Nellie T. (Larry) Bodenhamer of Lexington, SC, Mary T. (Bill) Weatherford of North Charleston, SC and Betty T. (Jerry) Owens of West Columbia, SC to cherish the special memories as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Latham was predeceased by her first husband of forty-seven years, Hamp Steverson and her sister, Marian T. Wadford.
The family would like to thank the management and staff at Generations of Chapin and Care by Generations for their unending support and care and also the nursing staff and caregivers with Harmony Care Hospice, especially Kristi and Krista. You all have been such a blessing and source of help.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SC Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
Following the services, the family will be at the home of Jerry and Betty Owens.
