

Valarie B. Chaney of Cayce, South Carolina, passed away from a long illness on January 14, 2026 at the age of 93. She was born on June 20, 1932 in Columbia, South Carolina and had 4 siblings. She was a civil service employee at Fort Jackson in the Clothing Classification Department of the Federal Government for over 20 years and retired in 1995. She was married 43 years to the love of her life, Arden Ray Chaney. She was the proud mother of 3 daughters: Patti Rabon (Cappy), Barbara Elliott (David), and Shirley Long (Bob). She was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Valarie loved to sing and was a proud member of her church choir and prior member of the Jubilant Singers. She enjoyed gospel music and traveling to concerts. She liked working in her yard gardening and was an avid garage sale shopper. She loved her church family, had many friends, and loved spending time bowling and playing bingo. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed using her gift in service of others. She also joyfully gave her time to sit and visit with those that were homebound. Her favorite time of year was Christmas and for many years she hosted a Christmas drop-in for her neighbors and friends. She especially loved to decorate at Christmas.
Valarie will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was a faithful Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters and their families. She was predeceased by her husband and a grandson. We wish to thank the staff at National Health Care and Caris Health Care for their many acts of kindness during her illness.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 18 at Mill City Church of Cayce (600 Holland Avenue Cayce, SC). Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Parking lot is located on the Lexington Avenue entrance behind the church. Burial will be at Southland Memorial Gardens (820 West Dunbar Rd., West Columbia, SC). In case of inclement weather, the graveside will be moved to the Chapel of Hope building on the cemetery grounds.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mill City Church of Cayce, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or the Salvation Army in Columbia, SC.
