Born at Fort Jackson on April 6, 1948, he was the son of the late Gertrude Medlin and Howard C. Powell, Sr.
He retired as Construction Manager for Fluor Daniels Construction Company after 35 years, traveling around the United States and the world. He was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, western movies, a member of the Springdale Masonic Lodge and a proud graduate of Olympia High School.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Powell (Sharpe); his daughters, Tricia Coghlan (Tim) and Amanda Martin (Chuck); his grandchildren, Hayley Kemmerlin (Sam), Katie Coghlan, TJ Coghlan, Kyle Martin (Kaitlyn), Tyler Martin (Madi), and Bella Martin; great grandchildren, Blair Kemmerlin, Colton Kemmerlin; and his dog, Lacey.
Mr. Powell was predeceased by sisters, Mary Whisenant (Olin), Debbie Pender (Eddie), and Deloris Powell; and brothers, Howard Powell (Ellen), Travis Powell (Marlene) and Roger Powell (Cindy).
Family visitation will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Rd, with graveside service to follow at 12:00pm at Southland Memorial Gardens.
The family will continue to receive visitors at the family home.
