WEST COLUMBIA - Willie Mae Rister Spence, 92, finished her earthly race and went into the presence of her Lord on Thursday, April 12, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Cleo Rister.
She was an active member of Laurel Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher and had served in many other areas of leadership. She loved people and was always serving her Lord by meeting the needs of other people. Willie Mae loved to crochet and shared the many items she made with others. She enjoyed having family in her home and sharing meals with them.
Willie Mae was predeceased by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; husbands and two step sons. Surviving are niece, Mable Lucas; great-niece, Janice Connelly and several great-nephews. Also surviving are step daughters, Lois Spires, Merle Butler, Katheryn Gunter, Evelyn (Harold) Chavis; step son, James (Gloria) Sharpe and daughter-in-law, Joyce Sharpe. She had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was blessed to have had a special friend and traveling companion, Ruth Smith, and a church that she treasured.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Laurel Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Steve Kittrel and burial in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family wishes to thank Heartland of Lexington and Heartstrings Hospice for the special care given to Mrs. Spence.
