Aurora was born August 10, 1924 in Manila, Philippines to Mariano and Atanacia (Fernando) Reyes. After her mother’s untimely death in 1938, she and her siblings were raised by her father and eldest sister Victorina. During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II, the siblings relied on each other for support. Following her father’s footsteps Aurora pursued a career in medicine graduating in 1952 from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine & Surgery. She served as a Provincial Health Officer in Pililla, Rizal Philippines. She then migrated to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and eventually the United States, briefly training in both pediatrics and internal medicine. She completed her psychiatry residency in Massachusetts and thus began a life long career with the Veterans Administration. She married Charles R. Mignosa in 1962 and moved to his Never Idle Farm in South Hampton, New Hampshire. In 1968, she and Charlie welcomed their daughter, Aurora Mary to the family. In 1978, the family sought warmer climate and finally settled in Waco, Texas. Aurora had a keen sense of humor and joy for life. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, and spending time with family. Some of her fondest memories are of growing up with her siblings and the many adventures they shared.
Aurora was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents, sister, Esparanza, sister-in-law Francisca (Pacing) Reyes, brother Virgilio Reyes and his wife Natividad, brother-in-laws Valente Raymundo and Justice Efren I. Plana, and sister-in-law Lydia Reyes.
Aurora is survived by daughter Aurora Mary Mignosa, MD and Bobby Anderson, siblings Victorina Raymundo, Modesta Plana, Juana Francisco and husband Constancio, Antonia Proulx and husband Larry, Guillermo Reyes and wife Helen, Pedro Reyes, and numerous nieces and nephews.
