Betty Jo Carter, 88, went home to be with our Lord, March 26, 2023. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellmead, with Pastor Brian Hesse as officiant. The family will receive friends, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.
Betty was born August 11, 1934 to Seabe Washington and Hulda Mae Johnson. She married Darriel Raborn, December 16, 1950 and Jerry Gibbs September 22, 1987. After the passing of Jerry Gibbs, she married Joe Carter on January 24, 2015. Betty was a past member of Beverly Hills City Council and was the Mayor of Beverly Hills for 14 years. She was also the past President of Heart of Texas Counsel of Government and the recipient of the Pathfinder Award for her poetry. Betty was also the Leader of Compassionate Friends. She was a successful business owner of G.I. Lewis Heating and Air for 36 years.
Betty was a very giving and generous person and a great mother, sister, wife and friend. The most important thing to Betty was God and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darriel Raborn; husband, Jerry Gibbs; daughter, Connie Sue Kimmons; son, Robert Carter; son-in-law, Brent Elting; sister, Willa Mae Herrin; and brother, CB Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Carter; daughters, Robin Hill and husband, James, Melissa Franklin and fiancé, Kevin Kennedy, Jo Ann Elting, Cindy McBurnett and husband, John; daughter-in-law, Roxanna Carter; sons, Larry Raborn and wife, Cindy, Raymond Carter and wife, Beverly, Jay Gibbs and wife, Heather; sister, Martha Bigham; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Betty touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed.
