OBITUARY

Grace Arleen Segler

December 21, 1925February 15, 2021

The beautiful and faithful soul of Grace Arleen Stevener Segler entered into heaven to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 15, 2021, at the age of 95. To know her was to love her and appreciate her gentleness, kindness, and deep caring love of others. Her peaceful passing, as she slept, was a merciful gift.

The daughter of Ernst Michael (E.M.), Sr. & Ruby Marie Pauline Dittmar Stevener, Grace was born in Waco, TX and lived in Waco all of her life. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Waco, Texas. Grace was baptised on Feb. 21, 1926, confirmed April 2, 1939, and married to Henry Robert (H.R.) Segler, Sr. on Dec. 5, 1943. She and H.R. were the loving and devoted parents of two children, Sharon Elaine Segler White and Henry Robert (Bob) Segler, Jr.

Her confirmation verse is Psalms 26, vs.8: Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honor dwelleth.

She attended St. Mark Lutheran day school, South Junior High, graduated from Waco High School, and Central City Commercial College. A caregiver of family members, in so many ways, included caring for her son who contracted polio at the age of six. She was active in the March of Dimes whenever possible. She actively assisted her husband in their business with bookkeeping and office duties as owners of Segler's Exxon until his death in 1984.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Sharon of Waco. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Shirley Mae Stevener, and many nieces and nephews who could always count on Aunt Grace.

Mrs. Segler was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son; son-in-law, William Paul White; three sisters, Dorothy Ruby Stevener Nobles, Doris Marguerite Stevener Paar, and Alma Edelweiss Stevener Horan; two brothers, Ernest Michael Stevener, Jr. and Raymond Elwood Stevener.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2000 Clay Avenue, Waco, Tx. Burial follows at Rosemound Cemetery. Social distancing will be observed at the church and cemetery due to Covid-19.

Her twinkling eyes, her laugh, her smile, her beauty inside and out are but a few memories I have of Aunt Grace. She always made our family feel so welcome whenever we drove from Houston for a visit. Even as a child, I always loved and admired the love and care she had for her family. What a celebration Heaven must be having now that Aunt Grace is home again.

Aunt Grace was my other mother from the beginning to the end. And, she was a good mother - a very good mother. Even, a godmother. Her strong faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, The Holy Gospel, was her hope and His Spirit gave her power. Power to persevere and overcome all the very difficult challenges in her life. It was all manifested in her walk in the world. A walk full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Even more. I think her main attribute was caregiving. Not only to her family, especially Bob, but to everyone. Her spirit lives on. Her future is bright - very bright!

Aunt Grace gave us a lifetime of unconditional love, memories to carry with us, and the best brown beans and French fries you ever ate. She knew what our favorite things were and made sure we had them. Christmas Eve at Aunt Grace’s was a sight to behold whether you were a kid or a grown-up. She loved and was dearly loved. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

We are so sorry to hear about the passing of your dear sweet mother. She was a very special person who we will miss very much. Although we were not totally related we still thought of her as Aunt Grace. She is now in heaven with our Heavenly Father and reunited with Aunt Doris and her other siblings and parents. May God give you comfort and peace during this difficult time. Sharon we love you and if you need anything let us know. With deepest sympathy , Mike and Cheryl Combs
