Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30, at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors with the Reverend Lori Cotton officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors on Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until the service time at Connally-Compton.
Helen was born March 16, 1926 in Groesbeck, Limestone County, to W. E. and Zella (Bigony) Holden. Helen was the youngest of two girls. She attended public schools in the Big Hill Public School District in Limestone County. On August16, 1946, she was united in marriage to CB James in Waco. He preceded her in death March 31, 1992.
Shortly after their marriage CB and Helen moved to Temple where she began her career with the Federal Government as a PBX Operator and he with the Texas Department of Public Safety in the Driver License Division. After CB became a State Trooper, they moved to Marlin and then Gatesville before settling in Waco. In Gatesville, Helen and Mrs. Dorothy Ayers revived the Cub Scout program. After they moved to Waco, Helen began working at the VA Regional Office until her retirement. They were members of the Cogdell United Methodist Church and attended the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the DPS Officers Association Auxiliary. She and CB were avid travelers with Kincannon Tours.
Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Emanis; and a grandson, Tyler James.
She is survived by her two sons, Mike and wife, Patti Dujka James of Ross and Jay and wife, Judy Jacks James of Sherman; grandchildren, Jason and wife, Kassidy James, Joel and wife, Lisa James, Sally and husband, Gordon Ellsworth, Wesley and wife, Mallori James; great-grandchildren, Anna, Hartley, Emily and Michael; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jason James, Joel James, Wesley James and Gordon Ellsworth.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jason Bauerschlag, Town Hall Estates-Hillsboro and Mission Hospice for their care and compassion.
