

Jessie Lillian (Marshall) Owen, 92 years old, went home to the Lord peacefully in her sleep on January 20, 2012. Funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 23, at 10 AM at Connally/ Compton Funeral Directors with Pastor David Echols officiating and burial to follow in the Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 PM on Sunday, Jan. 22, at Connally/ Compton Funeral Directors.
Jessie and her twin, George Walter was born on November 22, 1919 in a small community near Gatesville to Bertie L. and Lillian Griffin Marshall. Bert moved his family to Waco where Jessie and Walter attended High School. After graduating, Jessie moved to Fort Worth along with her cousin, to begin their adult lives. They worked at a garment factory sewing pants and shared a room in a boarding house for girls. Jessie met and married her husband, John B. Owen while there, but moved back to Waco when John went into the Army. She lived in Waco all her of life.
Jessie was an avid gardener, her flower beds were the envy of the neighborhood and she shared iris with anyone who would take them. She loved to read and spent many days on the porch with a book in her hand. An Atlanta Braves fan she loved baseball and never missed a televised game!
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and twin brother.
Jessie is survived by her daughters, Carol Whitworth of Crowley, Linda and T Lucius of Russellville, AR and Jean and Bert Stengel of Eddy, and Brenda Hardin –Wilmeth of La Port;
sons, Dudley and Kathy Owen of Axtell, John Owen of Waco and Kenneth Owen of McGregor;
She was the proud “Nanny/ Granny” of 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Westview Manor in McGregor and Saint Catherines in Waco for their loving care of our Mama in her last years.
