Joseph M. Sweeney Sr.

Joseph M. Sweeney, Sr., 82, of Waco passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at his residence. Services will be held at later date. Mr. Sweeney was born on March 23, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Michael and Mildred Innezeli Sweeney. He retired from the United States Navy where he was active in aviation. Mr. Sweeney served his country in Korea and was a Vietnam Veteran serving as a combat air/sca rescue crewman and received two medals for life saving in combat area and at sea. He loved collecting guns and antiques, clocks, and anything mechanical but his true love was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Maureen “Patti” Anderson on July 26, 2004. Survivors include his children; Joseph S. Sweeney, Linda McKinney, Cynthia Mennenga and Michael P. Sweeney, sisters; Mildred Ruffino and Mary Talucci, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Rest in peace Mr. Sweeney, Have not seen you or the family in years but I have thought of you all .Seems like not so long ago that we all lived in the same neighborhood. I will always remember you taking me to the Renascence Festival along with your family for the first time. Riding in style in that white station wagon.. Travel well.
