Layton E. “Buddy” Oliver, 88, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Ridgecrest Retirement Center, 1900 West Highway 6.
Layton was born March 7, 1922 in Speegleville, Texas to Levy and Margaret (East) Oliver. He attended Waco schools and college. Buddy married the love of his life, Louise Medaris, on July 7, 1942. Buddy served 3 ½ years in the Air Force Engineers serving time in England, France and Germany. Buddy was a newspaper consultant manager and director for over 20 years at the Waco Tribune Herald, 4 ½ years at the Freeport Newspaper, and 11 years and retiring from the Austin American-Statesman. Buddy and Louise are members of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Austin.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Louise M. Oliver; son, Michael Oliver of Rogue River, Oregon; grandchildren, Ryan Oliver, and Lindsey Stratton and husband, Josh; brothers, John “Bill” Oliver, and Gene Oliver and wife, Janie; adored niece, Elaine McIlravy; and other relatives.
Our grateful hearts give thanks to the very wonderful folks of Ridgecrest Retirement Center, Fermis Howard of Visiting Angels, and the dedicated people from Bluebonnet Hospice. Our love goes to three special almost adoptees, Bob Easter, Ruth Ann Anderson, and Connie Shumate.
