Linnie Jackson Dennis

April 2, 1926 – July 15, 2011

Linnie Dennis, 85, of McGregor, formerly of Waco, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Don Bohne officiating. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Linnie was born April 2, 1926 in Williamson County, Texas, to Sam and Ora Allman Jackson. Upon retirement from Citizens National Bank of Waco, Mrs. Dennis joined her husband in a gas and oil distributorship in McGregor. She was a member and Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a long-time member, President and International Co-Coordinator of Beta Sigma Phi, Nu Pi Chapter of McGregor. Mrs. Dennis served multiple terms as chairman of the American Heart Association Board of Directors of Waco and was active with the American Red Cross, chairing many local blood drives. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of McGregor. In 1986, Mrs. Dennis was named by the City of McGregor as Citizen of the Year recognizing her for serving as President of the McGregor Chamber of Commerce, organizing Chamber volunteers, chairing the McGregor United Fund, the McGregor Planning Commission, and Bandstand Restoration Committee. Committed to volunteering at Providence Hospital of Waco for over 20 years, Linnie was named a Volunteer 5-Star Vision Winner in 2004. She requested to be buried in her volunteer uniform.

Linnie was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 58 years, Bill H. Dennis, who passed away in 2002; and sisters, Ruby Carter and Gertrude Reese.

Linnie is survived by son, James Brian Dennis of McGregor; brothers, Sam C. Jackson of Holland, and L.O. Jackson of Fredericksburg; sister, Edna Earle Roth of Georgetown; and six nephews and seven nieces.
