Bobby was born on August 12, 1940, to Robert and Eura Jewel (Snodgrass) Sammon in Temple, Texas. The family moved to Waco when he was a very young boy. He graduated from Waco High School in 1959. He was a proud “Lion” and attended as many of the high school reunions as he could. Bobby accepted Christ as a young teenager. His faith was important to him
Bobby attended and graduated from Baylor University Air Force ROTC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. While Bobby was working towards his commission at Baylor, he met Donna Lea Stone. It wasn’t long before Bobby asked for Donna’s hand in marriage. Upon graduation, Bobby’s mother and future wife pinned on his gold bars. After they began dating there was no one else for either of them. Bobby and Donna were married on July 11, 1964, and were blessed with 61 years of marriage. Over the years their family grew and they eventually welcomed 3 sons and a daughter. Bobby was a devoted family man and his pride in his children knew no bounds. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as the Work Study Coordinator at Baylor University. He was able to send 2 of his children through Baylor on scholarships.
Bobby was also an avid follower of Baylor sports. He loved watching his Baylor Bears play football and basketball and was a supporter of the Lady Bears and just about any other athletics at Baylor University.
Bobby was a patriot. He loved this country and was proud to have served nearly 22 years active duty. Bobby was stationed in several states and in the Republic of the Philippines and was also deployed to Utapao, Thailand during the Vietnam War. After retiring from Baylor, he devoted his time to home and garden. He was a passionate gardener. The kitchen was often flooded with tomatoes, onions, potatoes and other fresh vegetables. He loved being out in the fresh air, overseeing the cutting in his hay field, mowing, pulling weeds, planning and planting his garden. Bobby and Donna enjoyed being on their little farm. They also enjoyed the many family parties they hosted, which always included laughter and lots of stories with a house full of children and grandchildren. He was blessed.
