

On December 15, 2021, at 11:22 am our mom Lydia Ortega Almaraz was called to her heavenly home. Lydia was born on July 23, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Pedro Ortega and Maria Louisa Martinez Ortega.
Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert, Roger and Peter Ortega. She leaves behind her two precious daughters Andrea Almaraz of Waco, TX., Daniele Idak and husband Steven of Itasca, IL., and precious granddaughter Jasmine Doerr and husband Josh Doerr of Elk Grove Village, IL., brothers Rudy and Janie Ortega of Wilmington, NC., Ray and Patty Ortega of Las Vegas, NV., Mickey and Mona Ortega of Colorado Springs, CO., and sister Bobbie Liscano of La Mirada, CA., nephews, Mark, Raymond, Damon, Rudy, Michael Ortega, and Jeffery Liscano, nieces Debbie Valentine, Jacqueline Liscano-Fry, Naomi Parker, Melissa Haro and Krista Ortega and many great nieces and nephews.
Lydia was a member of Moody Bible Church (Chicago, IL), a member of Brooklyn Tabernacle Church (Brooklyn, NY) and prior to moving to Waco, she was a member of Shadow Mountain Community Church (El Cajon, CA) for over 20 years. While attending Shadow Mountain Community Church, mom was actively involved in the bus ministry, children’s Sunday school ministry, and passionately involved as a charter member of SMCC prison ministry since 2003. The vision of the SMCC Prison Ministry is to touch as many as possible with the love of Christ and His saving grace.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday December 19, 2021, at 6:00 pm., at Connally Compton Funeral Directors.
The family would like to thank Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest, St. Catherine’s Rehabilitation and a special thank you to Wesley House and staff for the genuine care given to our mom Lydia. A special shout out to our dear cousins Marisa Martinez Sliva, Monica Martinez Smith and Marion Martinez Palomino for their love, support, prayers and generosity.
