I am saddened to hear of Raliegh Brown's passing.  I served aboard the Larson with Chief Brown for 2 years in the mid sixties.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and was an inspiration to me.  Thirty years after that time he tracked me down and we had since carried on a phone and card relationship.   I'll miss his Texas twang when he used my last name. The Navy was a better place as a result of his service.

My Uncle Raleigh loved me. He didn't have to use words. He showed me every week with a phone call. He always warned me if bad weather was coming my way. He always checked on me if I was sick. He took over when my Dad passed away and filled in. I feel like I have lost another parent. I miss his voice, his laughter and all our talks. He was truly a wonderful Uncle. I know you are sailing the smooth seas of heaven today and enjoying your family once more. I look forward to seeing your smiling face again. Rest in peace sweet Uncle!

I will be back on the bridge of the Larson and know that the ship is going the
right way because the chief is telling us were to go. I will miss him terribly.

Raleigh Brown served with my dad as a Chief on the Everett F. Larson in the early 1960s and were great friends.  He kept in touch with my family this past 50 years always calling several times a year asking how my mom and our family was doing.   We were so looking forward to visiting with  Raleigh and his fellow shipmates at the Larson reunion in RI next month.  We are extremely saddened by his sudden passing.  The loss of a good friend.  I'm sure he has reunited with our dad and the two are having a great time.  Our prayers and thoughts go out to Raleigh and his family.

Chief Brown, as he was known to his shipmates was not only a shipmate but a friend for over 48 years. We sailed together, "steamed" together on the beach and remained in contact long after our retirement. He watched our daughter, Brenda, grow into the lady she is today. Without fail he would ask about her on every phone call. To lose such a friend is difficult but he is not gone unless he is forgotten. See you on Fiddler's Green, my friend.

My Uncle Raleigh and I spoke every other week. I looked forward to talking with him and will miss hearing his voice. We would talk about the old days and anything new going on with each other. He was the kindest Uncle anyone could ask for. I will truely miss him!!

I first met Raleigh Brown at a USS Larson reunion more 15 years ago. He had as much fun joking with us about how old we are as he did laughing at the jokes from us about his Navy service in the sailing days. While my service onboard Larson was not at the same time as Raleigh's, I did have the privilege to know him through our annual reunions. It is my honor to call him a shipmate and a friend. While we always enjoy our fellowship at each reunion, those gatherings won't be the same without our favorite Quartermaster Chief.

USS Everett F Larson DD830 was fortunate to have him serve on board, and I was lucky enough to have served with him.

Rumor has it that he sailed with Christopher Columbus and that is how Columbus was able to reach America.Everyone who knew him and served with him will hold him in their hearts.

My Uncle was a shining example for his family of how to set a straight and true course and hold it firm to your goal. When I was a little boy I asked him to buy me a sextant. I didn't realize at that time that he would teach me with his life how to guide my way.

I am very sad to learn of Raleigh's passing....he was a longtime friend/shipmate with my father as well as a great friend to our family.  "Fasten your seatbelt Mr. Brown"!!  Your journey will be much smoother from now on I'm sure, but you will certainly be missed.  Till we meet again...Rest In Peace.

I am saddened by the passing of my shipmate and friend.  So long Raleigh.

Nobody ever had a more faithful friend, or a better sea-daddy. His passing has left a void in my heart.

Having know Chief brown for many years thru the USS Larson Reunion assoc. I only wished I had the chance to serve with him. He was a very wonderful person and we had many a laugh at the reunions . May he forever rest in Peace.Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
