Rosa Cortez

Rosa Manriquez Cortez, 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at Providence Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Oct. 23, 2012 at Connally Compton Funeral Directors with Elder Daniel Cantu officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8pm on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012.

Rosa was born March 28, 1925 in Gatesville, TX to Pantaleon and Angelita Manriquez. She grew up in Gatesville where she attended school and in 1941 became one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. In 1946, Rosa married the love of her life, Milton L. Cortez after he returned home from WW II. Rosa enjoyed gardening, especially her roses and orchids, and more than anything spending time with her family, whom she loved more than life itself.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Thelma Sparks.

Thos left behind to cherish her memory are children, Sylvia Carrizales and husband, Reyes, Milton Cortez Jr. and wife Sandy, Jim Cortez, Geneva Spivey and Greg Cortez; grandchildren, Tina Newman and husband, Travis, Shannon Olivarez and husband, Randy, Kristan Carrizales, Milton (Trey) Cortez III and wife, Stefanie, Seth Sparks, and Sage Spivey; great-grandchildren, Bryce Maibauer, Jaime Lerma, Dailen Olivarez, and Ryan Maibauer; one great-great granddaughter, Farrah Maibauer; sisters, Marcelina Deason and husband, Jesse, Andrea Philbeck, and Juanita Peeler and husband, James; brother, John Frank Manriquez; sisters-in-law, Herlinda Ochoa and Ramona Manriquez.

Family would like to acknowledge the staff of Providence Hospice for the love and care given to Rosa.
