Thomas Allen Powell entered into the presence of our Lord on March 12, 2026, with family present as he peacefully passed from this life into eternal life in heaven with his Father God at the age of 97. He was born July 1, 1928 and grew up in New Albany, MS. He married his love, Anna Burns Powell, on August 6, 1950 and they enjoyed over 75 years of marriage.
After high school He attended Holmes County Jr College then joined the US Air Force in 1951 where he served our country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955, with rank of Staff Sergeant with top secret clearance. After the service, he moved his family to Jackson, MS when he accepted a draftsman position at MS Power and Light Co during which time he attended MS College at night, earning his Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation he began his career in the insurance industry in claims which eventually led to the acceptance of his position as Claims Manager with St Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co in Shreveport, LA. Upon retirement Tom and Anna moved to Hot Springs, AR and eventually moved to Texas to be closer to family.
Tom enjoyed many activities such as golf, leather tooling, fishing, hunting, joke storytelling, puzzles, camping and traveling to Blue Grass Festivals but the greatest joy of his life was his wife and the family he loved dearly. He was a wonderful, happy, fun, funny husband and father.
He lived a faithful Christ-centered life that inspired and encouraged his family and friends to follow his example. He prayed sincerely and often for his family to know and follow Jesus, taking the opportunity every Christmas to give a special message to teach us truth from the Bible about the birth of Jesus and His blood sacrifice that saves us from sin so we too can live eternally with the Lord, as he is now. He noted KJV Hebrews 10:35-38 as a scripture that held significant meaning for him.
He was preceded in passing by his parents Cecil D. and Gladys Powell, Grandson, Daniel Laughter and Great Son-in-law, Johnny Rhoads. Tom is survived by his wife, Anna B. Powell, daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Justin Love, daughter and son-in-law Beth and Terry Cox, Granddaughter Shiela Rhoads, Grandson Nick Pratt and his wife Leslie, great grandchildren Sabrina Hosch and her husband Max, Cooper Pratt and his wife Cori as well as his three great great grandchildren Raelynn and Easton Pratt and Navy Hosch.
His absence from our lives on earth is profoundly felt but we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and we will join him in a joyful reunion when our time comes.
The immediate family will gather in a private celebration of life at a future date.
