Our beloved Abraham Pascual Palting ascended peacefully from our world at the fruitful age of 75 years old on July 11, 2023 in Maui Memorial Medical Center. Born on September 13, 1947 in Laoag City, Philippines, Abraham spent his childhood with 11 other siblings. Abraham’s parents Nereo & Filomena raised their children in Laoag City. Abraham’s life as a young adult consisted of farming on his family’s land. Abraham graduated from Illocos Norte College of Arts and Trade.
At the age of 17, Abraham met Gloria Toribio for the first time at a neighborhood store. Abraham would ride his bicycle to the store just to catch a glimpse of Gloria. He then began offering Gloria rides home on his bicycle just to spend more time with her. During their time of dating Abraham left to work in Claveria to earn more money. When he decided to return to Laoag, he asked Gloria’s parents for their blessing in marriage- to which they agreed. Abraham and Gloria Palting married on August 2, 1967 and had their first child at the age of 20. From that point on, Abraham and Gloria had 7 children in total. Their names are Marlou, Grace, Renato, Jeonalyn, Edgar, Lexlie, and Suzette. These children were his legacy and his world. In the middle of their new family, Abraham left to Saudi Arabia to be a worker abroad in order to support his family and provide their children with a higher education. After two years, Abraham decided to come home and focus on what he loved- farming.
This is how he supported his family- tending to land, driving tricycles, and using his produce to make cassava cakes and bibinka to sell. As he grew older, Abraham’s sisters, Noy and Dalin, alongside their parents, came to America. This move made Abraham wish he could come to America. Little did he know, his wish would come true on behalf of his eldest daughter, Grace. Abraham continued his passions in Maui, Hawai’i as a landscaper and took on a job as a dish cleaner until he was able to gain his benefits at the age of 71- he never forgot to wake up during nights to help Gloria make cassava cakes as well. He enjoyed his retirement for years - baking with Gloria, enjoying the fresh air under the family's mango tree, and travelling to the mainland to visit California and Las Vegas, Nevada.
There are a copious amount of stories his family is able to recall - both from his family in the Philippines and in the United States. Abraham has left a legacy of selflessness, unconditional love, and pure ambition in providing his family with a better life. Above all, Abraham Pascual Palting desired to rest in peace knowing his family will be capable of extraordinary things in his absence. To which his family has and always will be living as the best versions of themselves in honor of him. May our ‘Tatang’ Abraham Palting rest in love.
