Dennis Everette Riggs

On August 7, 2023, our beloved Dennis Everette Riggs, Sr. age 79 passed away peacefully at home with his family near under Hospice care. Dennis, also referred to as Denny was born on June 12, 1944, in Washington D.C. to parents Virginia Berger and Jack Riggs. His parents were serving in the military when he was born. Soon after birth, the family moved to Huntington Beach, California where he spent his youth.He proudly joined the United States Navy at 17 years of age and served six years. He worked in the construction industry specializing in carpentry for the rest of his life. He moved to Maui in 1980 and has made our island his home ever since. Dennis enjoyed sports and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Denise Riggs, sons Dennis Riggs, Jr. and Kalei Riggs, Granddaughter Uilani Riggs, sister-in-law April Gaffey of Maui, sister Jackie Scott (Ron), brothers Greg VanHooser (Vel), A. J. VanHooser (Patty), and Tim VanHooser (Karen) of California and Chris Darden (Maricarol) of Texas plus numerous nieces and nephews. A military service will be held on Friday, October 20th at 11AM at Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery on Maui and a memorial service will also be held in California sometime in the fall. Donations may be made to Hospice Maui in lieu of flowers.
