

Geraldine Mary Villegas (Shin), 80, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 22, 1945, on the island of Lanai, Hawaiʻi.
Gerrie was a woman known for her generous heart, strong faith, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She began working at a young age in the pineapple fields on Lanai. Later, she worked for many years as a bartender before devoting herself fully to her role as a homemaker, where she lovingly cared for her large and extended family.
A longtime member of Wailuku Union Church, Gerrie faithfully served as a Deaconess and was deeply involved in coordinating many church events and gatherings. She was often the go-to person for anything involving church functions, always ready to lend a helping hand and ensure everything was done with care and aloha.
Gerrie was known by many as a “hanai mom,” opening her home and heart to care for countless children over the years, treating them as if they were her own. Her kindness, warmth, and sense of humor touched many lives. Those who knew her will always remember her favorite saying: “Get a hep!”
She is survived by her loving husband, John Villegas; her children, Cheryle (Benjamin) Reed, Kauhane (Sarah) Villegas, Kimberlyn Keola (Harry) Aguinaldo, Keaka Villegas, Kahea (Keahi) Villegas, and Hannah (Ave) Villegas; Hanai Daughter, Dayvell (Boom) Kaowili; 32 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Her siblings, Clifford (pre deceased) (Gail) Shin, Cynthia (Peter) Arruiza (pre deceased), Clayton (Wanda) Shin, Donna Shin (pre deceased), and Bradford (Lisa) Shin;.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Keoni Villegas and her parents, Mary and Sam Shin.
Funeral Service for Geraldine will be on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Norman's Mortuary in Wailuku. Public Visitation starts at 6:00 p.m. with Service to follow at 7:00 p.m.
Gerrie’s legacy lives on through the many lives she nurtured, guided, and loved. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her faith always strong. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
