Iluminada peacefully passed away at home on June 29, 2025, in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai‘i.
Born in the Philippines on November 29, 1944, to the late Luis & Patrocinia Balagso, she lived a life full of love, strength, and generosity.
Iluminada fought cancer for nearly 20 years and was also a survivor of the Lahaina wildfires—living each day with unwavering faith and courage. She dedicated nearly four decades of service to The Westin Maui (July 12, 1971 – July 31, 2010). She is now reunited with her beloved Ruben Tadena.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Anthony Balagso, Ruby (Jesse) Balagso, Merilou (Marc) Grotelueschen, and Genedine (Michael) Ladera; grandchildren: Jarren, Joshua, Jacob, Jayden, Peyton, Lian, Symphaney, Kaedence, and Jamin; great-granddaughters: Mila and Julietta.
She is also survived by her loving siblings: Julita (Alfonso) Ibanez, Clarita (the late Juan) Mamuad, and George (Eva) Balagso—as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended 'ohana.
Iluminada’s presence and spirit will be forever cherished.
