She was born on October 27, 1930 in Lahaina, Maui.
Nobuko was a long time employee of the former Ah Fook’s Supermarket. She had a great love for cooking. Some of her most memorable dishes included her saimin broth, ozoni, nishime, fried mochi, homemade manapua, fried aku bones with grated ginger and shoyu, kinpira gobo, and shoyu sugar dishes ranging from Vienna sausage to tuna and onions.
During her free time up until the very end you’d see Nobu watching her favorite Japanese soap operas and crime shows on tv. She also enjoyed gambling whether it be in Vegas or in the comfort of her own home with her handheld games. She got to enjoy her last trip to Vegas in 2019.
Nobu was a well loved and respected matriarch. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and enjoying their company. Nobu was honest to a fault and spoke her mind which was her way of showing terms of endearment. Despite her blunt feedback her family always felt loved and supported. She absolutely adored the babies in the family, watching them silently with a big smile on her face, spoiling them with treats and goodies she had around. Nobu was always so independent and was always the one taking care of everyone else.
She is survived by her sister, Toyoko, and her 4 children; Merle, Asa (Janelle), Zepha (Dennis), and Rodson.
She left behind 8 grandchildren; Bronson, Steven, Jason, Kai, Tami, Anela, Lindsey, and Daisha, 13 great grandchildren; Angelica, Jade, Sophia, Kyra, Jonathan, Zachary, Mischa, Olivia, Kainoa, Michael, Persephone, Leilani, and Kaia and 2 great great grandchildren; Drew and Kelton.
She is predeceased by her parents and 9 siblings and great grandson, Izaiah. As per Nobu’s wishes, no funeral or memorial services will be held.
