Richard Allen Fernandez
Richard Allen Fernandez,passed away peacefully at his home under hospice care with his loving wife, Marilyn at his side,on June 21,2025. He was born in Hana on June 22,1941 and his family later settled in Pukalani. He attended St. Anthony High School graduating in 1960, and enlisted in the Army. After completing 3 years of service, he returned to Maui. In 1972 he joined the Fire Dept. He retired in 2003 as interim Fire Chief. He was instrumental in improving communications at the different Maui fire stations. He loved to cook for the crews,talking with his fellow fire fighters who became like family. He was a hard worker and did whatever he could to provide a better life for his family.He was a successful entrepreneur establishing Rick’s Electric in 1987. Since retiring, he enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandsons.He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Evelyn Silva Fernandez,his younger brothers Kenneth,Dennis,Patrick & Sally and younger sister Teresa Fernandez. He leaves behind his wife Marilyn, son Conrad, daughter Lorine, son-in-law Alan Strobbe, his brothers Jerome Fernandez (Rose Marie) Allan Fernandez (MaryAnn) and sister Laurie Yamamoto (Frank),sisters-in-laws, Lydia and Bernadette, as well as many nieces and nephews.He also leaves behind his 5 grandsons, Connor, Justin, Ryan, Austin and Kyle.
Thank you to everyone who supported us including Hospice Maui;nurses Kathy Baldwin and his niece Janell Fernandez.A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Church on July 15, 2025, starting at 9:00AM with Mass at 11:00AM. Burial to follow at Makawao Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
