Richard Lee Mertens

Richard Lee Mertens of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii (30plus years)has passed away after a long battle of cancer. Richard was the baby of the family, born in December 1959 to Wilmore and Catherine Mertens(both deceased) in Richmond, VA. His beloved siblings are: Wil/T.D. (Sheri) Mertens-both deceased, Bruce (Margaret)Mertens and Cate (Richard) Moore. His amazing niece and nephews: Courtney Moore, Christian Moore, William (Michelle & babies: Addy & Aidan)Mertens, Andrew (Becky)Mertens, and Robert (Leigh) Mertens. After a few years on Maui, Richard met and fell in love with his soulmate, a wild & beautiful woman, Deborah Farmer, who already had 3 wonderful children of her own: Melissa (Alford)-deceased, Amanda (Sanvidotto)&Joshua Farmer.

Richard worked his way up to ‘Sales Manager’ at Honsador Lumber and made many life long friends there. He & Deb, eventually adopted an adorable baby boy, Elijah Mertens and raised their beautiful granddaughter, Natasha (Alford.) They were also blessed to have 3 handsome grandsons: Aiden, Anthonie and Levi Sanvidotto. Together their Ohana had many wonderful adventures and happy holidays. Richard was a kind, intelligent, generous man who loved his family and lived a life of deep spiritual gratitude.

We invite you to celebrate his life with us on Monday, April 29th, 2024, 6pm, at Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku, HI.
