Robert was a man of commitment and resolve. He could be blunt at times, more so with his family. But, he never faltered in his love and commitment to us. He always put family first. If there were ever a family function, he made every effort to be present. This gave us opportunities to travel to Japan to meet our family overseas and many, many trips to Oahu to visit with ‘ohana there. His faith in our Lord kept him going when most would have given up on him. And, his faith allowed him to go Home with peace and serenity. Robert was born in Wailuku on February 3rd, 1937. His parents were William E. Garcia and Margaret Ah Nee Garcia. He graduated from St. Anthony in 1956. He attended the University of San Francisco and afterwards enlisted in the Army in 1962. Bob also attended Chaminade University and graduated with a Bachelors of General Studies in 1975. The military became his career. He retired from the Army as an E8, 1st Sargent in 1988. Bob’s military career took his family from Japan, to Oahu, to South Carolina, to Maryland and finally returning home to Maui after retiring.Bob met the love of his life, Tokiko Miyoshi, while he was stationed at Camp Zama in Japan. They married in 1964. They have 3 children together. Margaret Haleloke Garcia Dalzell (David), Daniel Bal Garcia, M.D. (Arleen) and Shirley Naomi Kanani Garcia, Esq.(in Heaven). He was the grandfather, “Poppa”, to Bailey Kahealani Miyoshi Dalzell (15), Noah La’akea Garcia (14) and Jacob Ha’aheo Garcia (11).He has two brothers, both here on Maui. William Eugene Garcia (Barbara) and Donald Garcia (Kay). He was a long standing member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha, Kahekili Chapter IV. He was a devoted parishioner at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Wailuku. He had a passion for books, food, and silly faces. Bob relied on his Faith to carry him through a lot of difficult moments and found peace in his Faith when it was time to go Home.“God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the Courage to change the things that I can. And, please, grant me the Wisdom to know the difference.Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardships as the pathway to Peace. Taking, as He did this world as it is, not as I would have liked it. Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will, so that I may be reasonably happy with Him forever in the next. Amen”There are so many people we would like to thank for taking care of dad’s health issues over the years. We would like to especially thank Dr. Mark Schwab and his wife Wendy, for taking care of dad’s heart for so many years. And, we would like to thank Dr. Nolan Arruda and the wonderful nurses and staff at the Maui Medical Group for giving dad so much of your attention and aloha through the years. And; once again, to Dr. Nancy Long and all the angels at Hospice Maui.
